oscar perks, alto/viola
Etudiant au College Royal de Musique, Oscar Perks se produit régulièrement comme soliste et musicien de chambre, jouant du violon ainsi que de l’alto. De plus, il enseigne à l'Ecole Yehudi Menuhin et s'intéresse à la composition et à l'adaptation.
Il a commencé à jouer du violon à l’âge de cinq ans. A huit ans, il a été admis à l’Ecole Yehudi Menuhin. Pendant sa première année dans cette école renommée, il a débuté à la salle Royal Festival Hall à Londres jouant le concerto à quatre violons de Vivaldi. A l’âge de douze ans, il a été lauréat du concours de la BBC/Guardian pour jeunes compositeurs et, de ce fait, la première performance de son quatuor à cordes, Les Tours Jumelles, a eu lieu à la salle Wigmore. Ensuite, Oscar a étudié la musique à l’Université de Cambridge où il était le premier violon de l’orchestre de chambre universitaire. Il a aussi étudié la composition avec Robin Holloway. A présent, il termine ses études pour une maîtrise sous la tutelle de Lutsia Ibragimova, avec le soutien généreux des Bourses « Gandar Dower » et « Douglas and Hilda Simmonds ».
Il a donné des concerts en tant que soliste et aussi membre d’ensembles dans plusieurs salles à Londres (Wigmore, Barbican et Festival entre autres), et, à Cambridge, il a joué comme deuxième altiste avec le célèbre quatuor à cordes Endellion. Il est membre du Parks Trio à cordes qu’il a fondé avec son frère, Elliott Perks.
Oscar Perks performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician on both violin and viola, while finishing his studies at the Royal College of Music. In addition he works as an assistant violin teacher at the Yehudi Menuhin School and pursues an interest in composing and arranging.
He started playing the violin at the age of five; three years later he won a place to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School. During his first year at the school he made his debut at the Royal Festival Hall playing Vivaldi’s concerto for four violins. He also developed an interest in composing, winning the BBC Guardian Young composer competition at the age of twelve, and also having his string quartet The Twin Towers premiered in the Wigmore Hall. Oscar went on to read music at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge, where he led the University chamber orchestra; he also studied composition with Robin Holloway. He is currently completing a Masters degree with Lutsia Ibragimova, generously supported by a Gandar Dower and a Douglas and Hilda Simmonds Award.
He has given solo and chamber concerts in several venues in Cambridge and London (including the Wigmore, Barbican and Festival Halls), and in Cambridge he joined the Endellion string quartet (as a violist) in a performance of Brahms’s second viola Quintet. He also plays regularly with the Perks string trio, an ensemble he co-founded with his brother Elliott Perks
