L’altiste néo-zélandais Alexander McFarlane prépare actuellement sa Maîtrise sous David Takano à l’école Guildhall à Londres, où il est boursier « Leo Birnbaum » et « Makers of Playing Cards ». En Septembre 2015 il était finaliste au concours International Brahms en Autriche, et en novembre 2015 il a gagné le prix «Max and Peggy Morgan » au Guildhall et il était lauréat du Concours de Concerto de l’Orchestre symphonique de l’Université de Londres. En tant que soliste, Alex a joué de nombreux concertos pour alto, dont les concertos de Bartok et de Walton, Der Schwanendreher de Hindemith et la Sinfonia Concertante de Mozart. Il s’est produit à côté des orchestres London Symphony Orchestra et Australian Chamber Orchestra, il a collaboré avec le New Zealand Symphony Orchestra et l’Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, et il a été l’altiste principal avec de nombreux autres orchestres, dont le Guildhall Symphony Orchestra et le National Youth Orchestra de Nouvelle-Zélande. New Zealand violist Alexander McFarlane is currently studying towards a Master of Music degree with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he is the Leo Birnbaum Scholar and the Makers of Playing Cards Scholar. In September 2015 he reached the final of the International Brahms Competition in Austria, and in November that year he won the Max and Peggy Morgan Prize at Guildhall and the University of London Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.
As a soloist, Alex has performed much of the viola concerto repertoire, including the Bartok Viola Concerto, the Walton Viola Concerto, Hindemith’s Der Schwanendreher, and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante. As an orchestral player, he has performed side by side with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, he has worked with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and he has played as Principal Viola with a number of other orchestras including the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of New Zealand.
