Né en Angleterre en 1991, Alexander Ullman a étudié à l'école Purcell sous la tutelle du chef du département des études sur clavier, William Fong. Depuis 2009, il est étudiant à l'Institut Curtis de Philadelphie avec les maestros Leon Fleischer, Ignat Solzhenisyn, et Robert McDonald. Pendant ses études au Curtis il a reçu la bourse «Gerry et Marguerite Lenfestt ».
Lauréat de plusieurs concours internationaux, il a remporté en 2011 le premier prix du prestigieux concours international de piano In Memorian Ferenc Liszt à Budapest. A la suite de cette victoire, il a fait des tournées en Europe et en Asie et il s'est produit dans des salles de concert en Italie, Allemagne, Hongrie, Pay-Bas, Estonie, Lettonie, Lituanie, au Danemark, en Inde et Chine. Il a joué aussi dans toutes les principalles salles de concert en Angleterre ainsi que dans plusieurs salles aux Etats-Unis où il a récemment débuté avec le célèbre orchestre de Philadelphie. Au début de cette année, il a donné un récital au Gewandhaus de Leipzig. Il a également joué pour BBC Radio 3, MDR et Radio France.
Alexander Ullman, born in 1991 in England, studied at the Purcell School of Music under the guidance of the Head of Keyboard, William Fong. In 2009 he entered the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he is studying with Leon Fleisher, Ignat Solzhenitsyn and Robert McDonald. At Curtis he holds the Gerry and Marguerite Lenfest Fellowship.
Alexander has won numerous prizes and international competitions including first prize at the International Piano Competition in Memoriam Ferenc Liszt, the Lagny-sur-Marne International Piano Competition, the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition, the Evangelia Tjiarri International Piano Competition, the International Marlow Concerto Competition, the Christopher Duke Piano Recital Competition and the One Thousand Islands International Piano Competition; and placed second in both the International James Mottram Piano Competition and the Seattle International Piano Competition.
Following his success at the Liszt Competition in Budapest Alexander has performed in a series of tours across Europe and Asia taking him to concert halls throughout Italy, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, India and China. He has performed in all of the major concert halls in England as well as extensively in America most recently playing his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Center in Philadelphia. Earlier this year he gave a recital at the Leipzig Gewandhaus. He has been broadcast by BBC Radio 3, MDR Classic and Radio France.
